Let’s talk about risking delight. I think the call to ‘delight’ usually comes in costume.

I think it’s about looking at difficult circumstances and seeing them as an invitation.
It takes courage to get beyond reaction when you’re triggered, outraged or freaked out.
Standing up to what’s difficult in life starts with a moment of awareness.
This feels big.

I am going to heal scarcity in myself.
This family pattern stops with me.
I am going to pivot to work in corporate.
I am going to release this addiction.
I can endure cancer treatment.
I will go to court for my kids.
I want a bigger love.
I can take care of a baby.
I am monetizing this brilliant idea!

It all takes courage.

It takes energy and focus and tenacity. It takes love.
(The root word for courage that is ‘coeur’ which means heart)

All of that blends together into devotion. Devotion brings delight. Not overnight. Maybe not when you think it will happen. But devotion is you saying YES, I want so much more. I will follow this path one step at a time because it’s the path I see.

On Wednesday night I heard Stephen Colbert, a Democrat, speak.
He told his audience that someone had kindly said, I am sorry you have to do a show tonight. They knew he was hurting. He said, “I don’t HAVE to do a show. I GET to do a show. And I will let you in on a little secret. No one gets into this business because their life worked out great. We’re built for rough roads.”

Then, he did a show.

We GET to show up for ourselves and RISK IT. It's incredible to witness the people we love and admire bravely transmuting, handling, creating–making the world brighter. Through their courage and yes… delight. I feel full of love when I see someone lean IN and work on a dream or a healing one step at a time.

And these paths are dark sometimes. They are confusing.
That’s why we have helpers. Helpers like you, who have had challenges. And are able to help others around you. Helpers who have learned from their travails how to be super strong under duress. Helpers who want to create for themselves and others and for sheer delight.

This is what makes standing up to life’s difficulties bearable.
