Asking for what you want is second nature.

You do it at a restaurant: I’m gluten-free. Not too spicy. Dressing on the side.
You do it when shopping for shoes: Nope, I can’t do heels that high. Medium width always.

But when it comes to the things that really matter—money, love, success—we hesitate.

When my daughters were in their brattiest teen era, I hit my limit. I asked them—outright—to write me a Mother’s Day card. Just one. One note to acknowledge that I was doing all the laundry and managing all their chaos.

A floodgate opened.

Not only did I get that one card—I now have a box full of heartfelt letters from every birthday and holiday since. That one uncomfortable ask taught them to express love in writing. I asked for something small. What I received was exponentially more than I expected.

On another topic, we all think we’re good at sex, right? But as generous as we are, there is still a learning curve. A while backI started asking for exactly what I wanted. The result? More fun, more orgasms, and lovers who felt empowered. Expansion—whether in bed, business, or bank accounts—is always on the other side of uncomfortable moments.

Marketing is a steep and ever-changing challenge for me. I ask and ask —even when it makes me feel tender, flawed, and out of my depth.
